Back in Spring 2017, we were delighted to accept an invitation from Newton Abbot Writers’ Group to join them in a Joint Arts Project with Newton Abbot Photographic Group and Newton Abbot Art Group. Together, the three groups are working towards an exhibition exploring the transition from photograph to word to painting.
The photographers produced a set of prints in sealed envelopes. Each writer selected an envelope and wrote a page based on the print. It could be fiction, non-fiction prose or poetry. Then the words, but not the prints, were passed to the artists who are currently producing pictures based on what they read.
This is an exciting project and we can’t wait to see the final outcome. The main exhibition will be in Teignmouth in November, where each set of three pieces (photograph, writing and picture) will be displayed together. There will also be an exhibition in Chudleigh in July, featuring just the pairs of photographs and words.
But today, if anyone is in Chudleigh Town Hall, they will have the opportunity to see just two of the photographs and associated words on the Chudleigh Writers’ Circle stand at the Annual Town Meeting. The transition begins today!
