On the last weekend of June, we bring you a round-up of local writerly news: a reminder about getting your PLR registrations up to date; a short story competition; a collection of flash fiction including pieces by two CWC members; and an invitation to a local author’s virtual book launch.
A reminder for anyone registered on the PLR (Public Lending Right) scheme that the closing date for registrations to be eligible for the current payment period is 30th June. And in UK, it is now possible to register ebooks as well as physical ones, providing they have an ISBN linked to them. Devon is on the Sample List both for July 2019 to June 2020; and for July 2020 to June 2021. The libraries have been closed for a while, but are opening very soon; and ebooks have been available throughout. So do check your listing and make sure everything is up to date.
Short Story Competition
You have just over a month to get your entry in for the short story competition being run by Exeter Literary Festival. With a limit of just 750 words and £350 in prize money, why not fish out that piece you’ve been meaning to do something with – and get it entered. Get all the details by clicking here.
And talking of flash fiction, Flashlight, the new anthology from Exeter Writers, has been out for just three weeks and has been selling well so far. The paperback version has now been released, so there are three ways to read this collection: on paper; as a purchased ebook; or as a free download for Kindle Unlimited members. And don’t forget that the collection contains stories by CWC members Elizabeth Ducie and Angela Wooldridge. You can get your copy by clicking here.
At a time when physical book launches are impractical, not to say, banned, it’s tough to be an indie author with a new book out. Local novelist, Richard Handy, has recently launched his latest spy thriller, The Wolfsberg Deception, and is holding a virtual launch party on Tuesday 4th August at 5.30pm. He would love some support from the local writerly community. You can register your interest by clicking here.
