In the second of three reports on the ninth Chudleigh Literary Festival, held earlier this month, we’re focusing on the afternoon’s activities for writers, ably compered by Jackie Juno. We bring you results of the Face the Chudleigh Dragons competition, and feedback from some of the people involved.

For the ninth straight year, Chudleigh Writers’ Circle hosted a one-day Literary Festival on the Wednesday of Chudfest week, taking over the marquee for a whole twelve hours. And what a great day it was. From the moment people started arriving just after 9am until the last person left more than twelve hours later, we drank tea or coffee until the bar opened; nibbled our way through six packets of biscuits; demolished lunch and supper; and talked writing, writers and words all day!

Can Your Novel Tame The Dragons?

There’s just over a week left to get your submission in for this year’s Face The Chudleigh Dragons event. That’s a week to write a 100-200 word blurb and to polish the first page of your masterpiece. It’s a free competition, and there’s a great prize awaiting the best pitch, so what have you got to lose?

On Wednesday 10th July, Chudleigh will be invaded by Dragons, although we’re not sure whether Daenerys Targaryen will be accompanying them on this occasion, and there will certainly be no White Walkers on the Play Park. (And unless you are a Game of Thrones fan, that last comment will be meaningless!).

Last week, we heard from two members of CWC about the new feature of the Literary Festival. This week we hear from  Suzanne McConagy, a guest from Torquay who heard about the competition via the internet and decided to come along and have a go.

A new event took place at this year’s Literary Festival; ‘Face the Chudleigh Dragons’. This week we hear from two members of Chudleigh Writers: Angela Wooldridge, talking from the point of view of a member of the audience; and Bea Hutchings, who was one of the first contenders to enter the Chudleigh Dragons’ Den. 

Update on the Chudleigh Dragons…

We’ve read all the entries and we’ve come to a decision. There will be eight presentations to the Chudleigh Dragons on Wednesday 11th July. It’s going to be a fun afternoon, so do come along and support these local authors sharing their latest work-in-progress and pitching for a great prize at the same time.

Are You Ready To Face The Dragons?

There’s a band of dragons heading for Chudleigh Literary Festival next month and we’re looking for heroes and heroines who are ready to face up to them.  But not just any old heroes and heroines. We need writers, novelists in fact. And it doesn’t matter whether you are a newbie, working on your first novel; or a seasoned regular on the publishing scene, you are all eligible to take part.
