Budleigh Literary Festival (Part 1)

The Literary Festival in Budleigh Salterton gets bigger and more popular each year. CWC member, Margaret Barnes went along to some of the sessions this year. Today, she tells us about one of the events she attended. And at the end, she has some news of her own too.

Exeter Literary Festival

Great news for both writers and readers in Devon; Exeter will be hosting a three-day literary festival in November. There will be presentations from local authors, both well-known and less so; a series of free workshops; and a great wrap-party featuring a quiz on banned books and some wicked cocktails.

Now We Are Ten (part 1)

In August 2008, a group of writers got together to chat about the possibility of setting up a writing group. One month later, the first meeting of Chudleigh Writers’ Circle was held. So tomorrow is our tenth birthday!

Update on Peter’s New Play

Peter Whittle, Chair of Chudleigh Writers’ Circle, has been entertaining Chudleigh for a long time with his funny and often highly irreverent songs; and with his musical performances. In the past few years, he has branched out into plays where he writes the lyrics, the music and the script. He produced three comedies: Float Yer Boat, Cankerbury Tales and What A Way To Go,  before turning to a more serious work with the heartbreaking and thought-provoking Mind The Gap. This week he tells us about progress with his new play, Edna’s Emporium, which will be performed in Teignmouth at the end of November.

Elizabeth’s New Books

It’s a busy few weeks for CWC Treasurer, Elizabeth Ducie, who writes both fiction and non-fiction. In August she published one book and began trials of a second one. In September, she will be launching her latest novel. And to cap it all, she’s running a sale  for two of her earlier novels.
